I made these Lily pads are made from 18 gauge copper sheet (one is brass), used foldforming to add creases, and soldered them onto copper stems. By arranging the lily pads at the same height and using a cast bronze green frog that “sinks” into its lily pad, I try to convince the eye of an imaginary water’s surface.

I used a granite rock for a base, drilling holes for the stems to go into and pouring molten bronze overtop to secure the stems. The rock and bronze represent a large tuber and root system for the water lily.

The purple and red oxides produced from annealing and soldering copper mimic the color of a new leaf.
