As part of a Prototyping for Experience Design course, I worked with a partner to develop an augmented reality experience in the app Hoverlay. We identified the Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex (ISEC) Bridge at Northeastern University as an opportune location for an AR exhibit on both the history of the Orange Line that passes underneath and the history of the bridge itself.
Experience Prototype
Process
We began by researching the history of the Orange Line in Boston and collecting historical images from when the line was elevated above the Washington Street Corridor. We also researched and gathered images of the construction of the ISEC Bridge and future plans for the Orange Line. In the app Hoverlay, we arranged these photos and videos chronologically and provided text to describe the content to users.

We made a promotional poster for the exhibit in Illustrator. We used a wall near a restroom as a reference image, allowing a Hoverlay user to see the poster at this location or other places around Northeastern with similar bathroom signage.

We then tested viewing the exhibit on the ISEC Bridge both during the day and at night. The assets align nicely with the wall of the bridge, emphasizing the feeling of being in a museum exhibit. The text can be enlarged and moved by users. The prototype can still be accessed by the public from this bridge.
